About Jamie & Nick

Nick:

I was born in Christchurch, New Zealand 20th April 1993. I was the third boy for parents Jenny and Chris. From an early age I was keen to make my mark. Competitive from the word go I was determined not to be left behind in the wake of my older brothers. I was fortunate to be introduced into many different sports and steered down the pathway as a competitive swimmer for a while.
But skiing was where I felt exhilarated and driven to succeed and soon I was training with the Team Hutt Race Team, learning the skills and technique and winning medals and trophies. My family loves skiing and we were lucky to share skiing trips including to the USA and Canada and I know this has played a big part in my life to date.

My first overseas training camp was to Morgins, Switzerland. From this camp I raced the Borrufa Cup in Andorra where I performed well and I soon realized that Alpine racing in Europe was like the All Backs to us in New Zealand.

After finishing my secondary schooling career, at Christchurch Boys' High, I am currently completing my third year at Canterbury University studying Finance and Economics.

                                                Jamie:

Born on the 28th May, 1991, I am the middle son of our family of 3 boys.
Introduced to skiing at age 4yrs, I enjoyed the thrills, spills and speed with family holidays at the local Canterbury Mountains and trips down south to Treble Cone.

Perhaps a little quieter than older brother Sam and younger brother Nick, I needed to make sure I was seen and taken notice of when it came to the sporting arena. As a young athlete my strengths were spread across a range of sports particularly athletics and tennis.
I stood out with my speedy legs and distinguished hair colour!!!
However, as our family was drawn to the mountains and the snow, my passion for ski racing grew and I have never looked back.

Fortunate to experience the European passion for Alpine ski racing as a K2 and ski at some of the massive resorts of Europe and North America, my determination to strive, reach and compete at the highest level of competition, is my ultimate aim.

Often referred to as a hard worker .… with one of my coaches commenting, “if we could put up lights, Jamie would still be out there training.”

Education is also important to me, but with the time commitment to training and racing I have to be realistic. I am however currently studying Finance at Canterbury University and hope to complete a full years course, with 4 papers first semester and 2 papers second, it will be a very busy year!
