Season's Over!

Since our last European update, we headed to Crans-Montana, SUI, to forerun the Men's World Cup Super-G. What an amazing experience and one we were both extremely privileged to be part of. We learnt a tonne from watching how the top dogs prepare for their races and gave us an insight into what it would be like racing on the World Cup circuit...... Check out the video we have put together of the race.

Following our rather disappointing results in Les Menuires, France, we had the opportunity to race 2x Super-G's at one of our home training hills in Stoos. Even an early morning inspection at 6:30am did not stop the sun from destroying the piste and hence a huge advantage to the first 10 racers. Although you cannot put blame entirely on external factors, it is fair to say, we did not execute our race plans.

Nevertheless, we kept striving for more success at Jamie's last race of the season, a GS at Flumserberg, SUI. Nick built on his 1st run to bring home 25th place and to score a confidence building 31 point result, just above his current points. Jamie didn't manage to finish his 2nd run.

Due to changes in the programme at World Juniors, Italy, Nick decided to compete only in the two final races, Sl and GS.

Roccaraso, ITA, is situated waaaaaay down south in the centre of Italy 2 hours east of Rome. The weather persisted with frustrating fog and warm conditions over the entire event, which made racing conditions so challenging.

The GS was one bizarre race!! If you made the top 30 after the first run, anything could happen. Thomas Dressen of Germany, finished 30th after the first run and skiied his way into 2nd position!!

Nick packed it hard on the pitch, DNFing the first run. It would have been interesting to see how close to the top 30 he would have ended up.

The World Junior Champs was a frustrating but valuable learning experience for Nick and he is positive he will be right up there next year at Mont St Anne, Quebec, Canada.

We have thoroughly debriefed our season and are in the process of putting together our plan for the SH season. We will have an update in the next month hopefully on what our movements will be.

Since our return there has not been a lot of breathing space, with both of us undertaking a full course load for this semester at UC uni. We are determined to maintain our high academic expectations alongside our ski racing. Thank god we have a lighter load planned for semester 2!

However for now we will start smashing out our physical training and will begin our preparations for the next chapter in the book!!

Check out a video below of Crans-Montana, think it came up pretty well! (Press the HD button to watch in Super clear HD, have to click to watch on Vimeo tho...)
